Please see below for a brief report of each trial, the selected regional squads and instructions for players who are moving onto the second round of trials.
South East Trial: Charterhouse School
Chartehouse School played fitting host for our next trial for the U-18 England Schoolboy team. The reputed home and origin of organised school sport was an impressive venue. Around 60 players from across the region attended the series of games, and the standard was extremely encouraging. I am sure a number of the boys will progress further in the process. With 9 goalkeepers to assess, it was great to have the experience and expertise of local teacher Michael Johnson in attendance. He did a tremendous job and provided a set of empirical data that was truly outstanding. Dave Woollaston produced an excellent programme and the many positive comments were made about the professionalism of the trial.
South West Trial: Fry Club Keynsham
The final regional trial, was the biggest of the 4 trials, with 60 boys attending. Stuart Inger made light of the logistical problems this threw up. With the players divided into 4 teams each player was thus given more game time. Some high quality football was played. The colleges in this area are very well organised and it is great to see them nominating players for this team. A squad of 18 boys was selected and they will face a strong S.East unit next week at Rayners Lane FC in London.
Details of these trials that anyone can attend are:
North Squad v Midlands Squad @ Halton Stadium Widnes 1.00pm KO Sat 3rd Nov
South East Squad v South West Squad @ Rayners Lane Fc 12.00 KO Sun 4th Nov
From these 2 games a group of 34/36 players will be selected for the final trial at the end of the month.
The South East England squad will play against the South West andshould be at the ground for 11:00am and report to the team coaches. You will need to bring your playing boots, shin guards and toiletries for showering after the game. Please also provide a track suit for warming up. There will be a hot meal provided for you at the end of the match.
Please note that this is the third stage in the International Team selection process. The above game will be the second of two matches during the weekend from which players will be selected to attend the final selection weekend at Lilleshall after which the U18 England Schools’ FA team for 2012-12 will be selected.
