A narrow 2-1 win sends Baxter College through to the 3rd round of the U16 Premier League Schools’ Cup!

Arrow Vale arrived at Baxter College for the National Cup Second Round Match, but the team’s first match of the season. In a game that would be hard to call after both sites beat each other last season.
Vale started brightly enough with Baxter slow to get going, it didn’t take very long for Vale to get the breakthrough. Baxter gave away a free kick on the edge of the box after only two minutes. Vale took the free kick which hit the Baxter wall with a wicked deflection off the wall sending Jack Bough the wrong way giving Arrow Vale the lead.
In a half of very few changes Baxter and Vale went at each other. It was end to end with very few chances on either side. Half time came with Vale leading 1-0.
The second half started and after stern words from Mr Garbett, Baxter College got going straight from the off. Baxter started controlling the midfield and kept knocking on the door but with no reply and Baxter needed to turn the possession into goals. With Vale looking as though they would break Baxter’s hearts and progress into the third round, Baxter struck. After some great work, Jack Wankling played the ball through to Harrison Yates, who struck the ball across the keeper and off the post and in. 1-1- game on!
Baxter continued to press and got their rewards. Vale gave away a silly free kick on the edge of the box. Harrison stepped up and curled a beauty into the top corner with only a few minutes left.
Baxter through but only just.
The ESFA would like to congratulate Baxter College on their first win in Round 2 of the Premier League U16 Competition and also thank Arrow Vale Academy for their participation in the cup this season – best of luck in your other competitions!
