Glorious sunshine greeted Westlands School (Swale SFA) and South Holderness Technology College (East Riding SFA) at the Pirelli Stadium, home to Burton Albion FC, on Wednesday 6 April.

On 16 minutes South Holderness’ Hope Knight, burst through the Westlands’ defence and drilled a low shot which was gathered well by Westlands’ keeper, Emily Harriss.

On 23 minutes South Holderness’ number 6, Ellie McKenzie, broke free down the right hand side and managed to cut in and force the Westlands’ keeper into another fine save. By this time South Holderness were pushing hard to break the deadlock but Westlands’ defence stood firm.

South Holderness’ then went close again on 28 minutes after some clever play by Ellie McKenzie as she rounded Westlands defender Della Cooper but again saw her effort saved by the impressive Harriss.

South Holderness’ pressure eventually told on 29 minutes when Hope Knight’s looping header nestled into the back of the net.

On 36 minutes Ellie Mckenzie went close again for South Holderness as she went round the Westlands’ keeper but saw her effort hit the side netting.

Westlands’ captain, Alice Singyard, drilled a thunderous free-kick from 35 yards which was tipped onto the bar by South Holderness’ keeper, Rachel Widdicks.

Hope Knight made it 2-0 to South Holdernes on 45 minutes when she ran clear and coolly slotted past the advancing Emily Harris.

Kit Graham scored a spectacular long range effort for Westlands on 60 minutes to recover some hope for the Kent school.

McKenzie then hit the side netting for South Holderness on 62 minutes and Hope Knight struck the post a minute later. Natalie Gray ensured that Westlands would not make an unlikely comeback, when her long range effort sailed over the Westlands’ keeper into the back of the net.
